Jobbik welcomes triumph of national forces in Austria’s presidential election

Jobbik Movement for a Better Hungary welcomes the news that the first round of Austria’s presidential elections brought a landslide victory for Norbert Hofer, the candidate of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ).

We are convinced that Europe’s nations are facing completely new challenges in the 21st century, and they can only be led through these difficulties by such politicians and parties that are able to respond to the new situation. Today’s election brought utter failure for the forces of the 20th century, clearly showing the Austrian people’s opinion about the coalition government of the past years and the impuissance of Austria’s leaders.

Jobbik wishes a lot of success to Norbert Hofer and FPÖ in the second round of the election, we trust that the national candidate will get the necessary votes to win the presidency. We also express our hope that Austria’s political actors shall respect the will of the people and shall not attempt to undermine the institution of a truly democratic election by an alliance against the likely winner, as it happened in France recently.
