Jobbik: Hungarian government must back Wage Union initiative

The largest opposition party calls on the government to back the wage union initiative as well as to launch a comprehensive programme for home creation and housing construction.

In his Monday’s press conference, Jobbik’s deputy Parliamentary faction leader Dániel Z. Kárpát said that the brain drain of our youth had upset the social security and pension system and was going to put Hungary on the brink of Balkanization within a decade because the ageing population could no longer remain self-sufficient.

He noted that Hungary’s governments had all failed to raise the issue of the east-west wage gap within the Union.

The politician referred to the right of prosperity in one’s own homeland as a fundamental freedom which needed to be ensured. He added that the European Wage Union was going to entail a slow but marked increase of wages. “Besides, the EU’s cohesion funds must be restructured through internal reforms,” Mr Z. Kárpát asserted, explaining that the wage union would not mean the transfer of taxation competencies to Brussels.

He also demanded the government to launch a comprehensive programme for home creation and housing construction. In his view, the impoverishment in Hungary causes housing problems, which are a key motivation for emigration. “If you earn the average Hungarian wages, you have no realistic chance to buy a flat,” he concluded.
